WI-FI — Free Wi-Fi is available 24-7 to patrons and guests of the libraries.
BOOKS — Checked out for 3 weeks. Can be renewed by bringing them in, renewing on-line, or calling the library with your name and the book’s title. When calling after hours, leave a message with the pertinent information
VIDEOS — Over 3,000 videos available for 1-week check-out after a Video Agreement is signed. Videos may be reserved, but not renewed.
DOWNLOADABLES — E-books and audio-books may be checked-out for up to 3 weeks from the Black Hills Library Consortium, powered by OverDrive.
MAGAZINES — Checked out for 1 week. The most current issues are non-circulating.
SOUND RECORDINGS — We have over 800 audiobooks and 500 music CDs available for 3 week checkout
ELECTRONIC RESOURCES — Patrons can access various electronic resources at the State Library’s website. These resources include ProQuest, Ancestry Library, Learning Express Library, World Book, SIRS, Pronuciator, Chilton Library Online, among others.
REFERENCE MATERIALS — Most can be checked out for 1 week. Materials that cannot be checked out may be photocopied.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN — If we do not have a book you want, we can borrow it from another library. We ask for a $3.00 donation per book if the book has to be borrowed out-of-state and returned via the postal service rather than a courier.
FINES — 10¢ per day per book; $1.00 per day per video/DVD.
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS — South Dakota Books, Westerns, Science Fiction, Large Print, Audio Books, and Talking Books in special areas.
PHOTOCOPIER — 10¢ per copy in black-and-white; $1 per copy in color. We can reduce and enlarge, as well as copy both sides of the paper.
COMPUTERS/SCANNER — Computers are available for use free-of-charge. Patrons are limited to 30 minutes per session and 2 sessions per day. Upon request, time can be extended for those seeking and applying for jobs. All computers can print to a color or laser printer. A scanner is also available for use on one computer. A game computer is available for your children to use while you look around.
LAPTOP — A laptop is available for use by library card members who need to use the electronic resources, such as Ancestry Library, or need to complete applications, conduct job searches, etc… The laptop is checked out for 2-hour increments and may be renewed two times if no one has reserved it.
STORY-TIME — Story-time is offered at 10:00 a.m. on Fridays from September to mid-May except during weeks when Custer Schools are on break or when school is in session on Friday, such as on the Friday of Homecoming week or during snow make-up days. The hour includes stories, coloring, a craft, and a snack.
EDUCATION — The library staff proctors tests for those pursuing advanced education courses.
VERTICAL FILE/PAMPHLETS — Collection of materials on a broad range of topics arranged in alphabetical order in a file system. List of topics is located on top of the file. Materials are checked out for 1 week.
